Transoral Robotic Surgery
At the Puerto Rico Voice and Swallowing Center, we are committed to providing modern, efficient, and patient-centered care. That’s why we integrate transoral robotic surgery technology into our treatments to access complex areas of the throat.
This video explains what transoral robotic surgery is and why it is used on the base of the tongue, tonsils, palate, and, occasionally, the base of the skull. The use of the Da Vinci robotic system is essential, as it allows surgeons to:
- View structures in three dimensions and under magnification.
- Use small, precise arms to access areas that are difficult to reach with human hands.
Transoral robotic surgery is indicated for the treatment of:
- Tumors (benign or malignant) of the tonsils and base of the tongue.
- Sleep apnea surgery.
- Skull base tumors are best accessed through the mouth.
In certain cancer cases, this technique is used in combination with a neck approach to treat benign and malignant tumors in the deeper parts of the neck and skull base.
Integrating technology into our procedures allows us to stay at the forefront of modern medicine and continue offering accessible, high-quality care.
