Da Vinci Walkthrough
At the Puerto Rico Voice and Swallowing Center, we are committed to providing modern, efficient, and patient-centered care. That’s why we integrate cutting-edge technology, such as the Da Vinci robotic surgery system, into our specialized treatments.
In this video, Dr. Laureano Giráldez-Rodríguez, an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon specializing in transoral robotic surgery, gives a tour of the Da Vinci system. Dr. Giráldez-Rodríguez explains that the system consists of three main parts: the surgeon’s console (where they sit to control the instruments and view the surgical field in three dimensions), the assistant’s monitor, and the robotic arms. These arms use interchangeable instruments, such as cautery and forceps, to work with great dexterity and precision inside the throat.
Dr. Giráldez-Rodríguez emphasizes that the Da Vinci system increases surgical precision, as it allows for incisions to be made only in the tissue necessary to heal the patient. This approach results in a much shorter hospital stay compared to traditional open surgery.
Integrating technology into our processes allows us to stay at the forefront of modern medicine and continue providing accessible, high-quality care.
