Advanced Treatment of Larynx Cancer

Larynx or vocal cord cancer occurs when cells start growing without control and become malignant and invade the tissues of the vocal cord. It usually occurs in patients who have smoked or consumed alcohol, but can also happen in younger patients with other risk factors. Cancer of the larynx is treated according to its stage of presentation. In early cancer we offer patients treatment with radiotherapy or surgery. Advanced cancer is usually treated with a combination of surgery, with or without radiotherapy that is sometimes combined with chemotherapy, if needed.

The voice and swallowing center of Puerto Rico offers the gamma of innovative surgical treatment for pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the vocal folds. We offer endoscopic (through the mouth) cancer treatment with 532 nm KTP laser therapy as well as advanced partial open surgery, and total laryngectomy with voice rehabilitation with TEP prosthesis.
