Voice therapy after vocal cord surgery
At the Voice and Swallowing Center of Puerto Rico (Centro de Voz y Tragado de Puerto Rico), we are committed to providing modern, efficient, and patient-centered care. For this reason, we highlight that voice therapy is an essential part of the recovery process following vocal cord surgery.
In this video, the belief that voice recovery after vocal cord surgery is automatic is debunked. Voice therapy is crucial because it helps to retrain the muscles used for speaking and to resolve bad vocal habits that could perpetuate voice problems, even after the organic pathology has been surgically resolved. During the sessions, specific techniques are used to re-educate the voice, improve breathing, and achieve clear, effortless communication. Since every body and every surgery is different, it is essential to receive professional follow-up. It is recommended to schedule a voice evaluation if, after the operation, vocal fatigue, hoarseness, or discomfort when speaking is still noticed.
Integrating voice therapy as a vital step in the post-operative process allows us to stay at the forefront of modern medicine and continue to offer accessible and high-quality care.
